Obituary for Robert Earl King Jr.

Robert Earl King Jr (Bob) 53, Suffolk, VA, went to be with the Lord on Friday March 5, 2021.

Robert was born July 26, 1967 in Hartford Connecticut. He was the first born child to Loretta King and Robert Earl King Sr. Robert graduated from Weaver High School in 1986 in Hartford CT, and he was a member of First Church Of The Living God in Hartford CT. After high school Robert joined the military where he served 10 years in the US Navy. After completing his time in the armed services Robert became a Merchant Seaman. After years of hard work and dedication he eventually earned the title of Chief Engineer Merchant Seaman. This was an accomplishment that he took great pride in achieving. Robert met Shannon L. King in 2006, and the two were married on May 19, 2008 at East End Baptist Church in Suffolk, VA. Anyone who knew Robert would tell you how much he enjoyed talking to friends and family on the phone. He would say he got his love of talking from his dad, who carried the nickname of “Preacher Mo." Robert was a very family oriented person and tried to keep in touch with his long distance family via talking on the phone, text, or social media. He spent his off time managing and staying on top of his rental properties as well as working on his cars. Robert also took pride in maintaining a nice yard. If you knew Robert, you knew how he was about his yard/grass. Robert was usually a very casual dresser, however when he got ready for church or any other special occasion, he liked to be sharp. He was SERIOUS about his Stacy Adams shoes, all of his suits, and his hats, which was something else he inherited from his dad. Robert was a member of East End Baptist Church in Suffolk, VA, and he enjoyed going to church whenever he was home off the water.

Robert is survived by his wife of nearly 13 years Shannon L. King, his son Robert Earl King III, his two step daughters Adryan Baskin and Ja’Lyn Wortham, his sister Arlene Jiggetts, his nieces Sha’Nequa D. King, Adave’via S. King, Dy’asia S. Jiggetts, and two great nieces Queen F. Martin and Jah’Mira J. Gray, his Great Aunt Corine McCaskill of Lower Peach Tree, Alabama, his in-laws Shelly Gibson (Kala), Jamal Hawkins (Vannessa), and Tommie Hawkins (Desiree), and a host of other aunts, uncles, and cousins of whom he loved.

Robert was preceded in death by his mother Loretta King and his father Robert Earl King Sr.
