Wednesday, March 10, 2021, Melvin Buchanan Haynes, loving husband and father of two children, passed away at the age of 80.
Melvin Buchanan Haynes was born on December 19, 1940 in Norfolk, Virginia to James and Ethel (Smith) Haynes. He worked as a Tool & Die Maker in Stratford, Connecticut for over 30 years. On May 30, 1966, he married Ouida Williams. They raised two sons, Melvin Phillip and Michael Buchanan.
Melvin Buchanan Haynes loved God, his family, and friends. He took great pleasure in being a husband, father, brother, grandfather, and an uncle. Following relocation from New Haven, Connecticut to his home state of Virginia, Melvin reunited with the Shiloh Baptist Church. He enjoyed fishing, painting, cooking and most of all, auto repair. He taught himself to be extremely proficient in auto repair and was known to repair cars for friends and family when needed.
Melvin Buchanan Haynes was preceded by his father James Edward Haynes, Sr. and his mother Ethel (Smith) Haynes. He is survived by his wife, Ouida W. Haynes, two sons, Melvin Phillip Haynes (Laurie) and Michael Buchanan Haynes, one granddaughter, Olivia F. Haynes (daughter of Melvin Phillip Haynes), and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
