Obituary for Joseph Smith Sr.

Joseph Smith, Sr. (Top Cat) a native of Norfolk, VA. He was
born in Washington, N.C. to the late Joseph B. and Mary B.
Smith on April 24, 1946. Joseph quietly entered into enteral
rest on March 25, 2021 at 8:38 pm, Sentara Princess Anne
Hospital, Virginia Beach, VA. He was preceded in death by
his parents, Joseph B. and Mary B. Smith, 2 sisters Mary S.
Williams and Vestie S. Spencer, 3 brothers Lloyd D. Smith,
Charles Smith, and Franklin R. Smith.

He was educated in Washington, N.C. public School,
graduating from P.S. Jones High School where he played
drums in the marching band. He won a scholarship to attend
Elizabeth City College.

He was employed with Norfolk Southern Railroad for 25
years as a Truck Laborer, he later retired in 1996. His favorite
past time was gardening, cooking, and sports. He was an avid
Pittsburgh Steelers Fan.

He leaves to cherish his memory his Wife Sandra Smith,
Daughter Terry Brown of Chester, VA, Sons Joseph Smith,
Jr. (Shanita), Kevin Brown (Tiffany), and Ret. Infantry Staff
Sgt. (US Army) Erick O. Smith of Wichita, KS., Sisters Sarah
Smith, Carolyn Rogers, and Mazel Boston of Washington,
NC., Brothers Floyd Smith, Melvin Smith of Washington, NC.
And Oscar Smith of White Plains, New York. A very special
and loving friend Barbara J. Gray. Grandchildren Jasmine R.
Foreman, Joseph Parker, JoQuayla Parker, Jordan Sanders,
Consuela Hall of N.C. and Jamon Lee of Virginia Beach, VA. A
very Best Friend Clarence Silver and a host of other relatives,
nieces, nephews, and friends.
