Obituary for Daphne Elizabeth Powell (Barnes)

Obituary
On Wednesday, April 7, 2021 om Chesapeake Regional Medical
Center, Daphne Elizabeth Powell of Chesapeake transitioned
peacefully with a very dear friend long her side. Daphne was born to
Gloria B. Stewart and Ivory Edwards on December 31, 1951 in Norfolk.
Daphne affectionately known as Liz was a sweet, loving, and kind
mother, daughter, sister, aunt, great aunt, cousin, and friend.
Daphne was educated in Norfolk Public Schools, graduated from
Booker T. Washington in 1970. She later married and out of the
union she had a wonderful son, Larry Foster, Jr. Daphne was
employed at Systems Management America (SMA) for many years.
She was employed at Chesapeake Crossing as Assistant Manager.
Daphne retired from Norfolk State University, Science and Engineers
Department as an Administrative Assistant in January 2018.
Daphne had many loyal friends who she enjoyed listening to good
music, eating crabs, dining out, and having fun.
Daphne was a member of New Mount Zion Church of God-Holiness
where she served faithfully. She was the secretary of the Senior Usher
Board, Women Willing Workers and Member of Sunday School.
Daphne was preceded in death by her Mother Gloria B. Stewart, Father
Ivory Edwards, three brothers Robert Stewart, Randy Barnes, Rodney
Barnes, maternal grandparents John and Elizabeth Barnes, paternal
grandparents Mr. and Mrs. Edwards, recently first cousin Trent Wult
Frazier, God Mother Marian Duck and close friend Paula Kent.
Daphne leaves to cherish her loving son Larry Foster, Jr. from
Alexandria, Va., two grandchildren Kristofer and Indionna, sister
Angela Barnes, brother Ronald Barnes, nieces, nephews, great nieces,
great nephews, cousins, devoted cousin Shelia Lopez, Bernie, and
Margo. Lots of friends, special friends Joe and Mary Landy, Barry
and Pamala Saunders, Ronald and Angela Buily of West Virginia,
Veronica Williams, Cynthia Clemons and her Lucy Poo.
