Obituary for Karen Eloiss Artis (Turner)

Our loving mother, sister and friend Karen Elois Artis was granted her angel wings on April 8, 2021. Karen was born in Warrenton N.C. on December 14, 1957 to Lemuel and Victoria Turner. After relocating to Norfolk, Virginia Karen attended Norfolk Public Schools where she graduated from Granby High. She retired from Norfolk School system after many years of service where she was a favorite to the students and staff. Karen joined The New Bethlehem Church of Christ, Disciples of Church in the early 1980's under the leadership of Dr. Craig Avents, Sr. Karen was very dedicated and a loyal member of the church who served the church faithfully . She served director of the Kitchen Ministry, worked in the Soup Kitchen Ministry, worked in the Youth Ministry, member of the Adult Sunday School Class, member of the North Albermale Union Meeting, member of The Washington- Norfolk District Assembly. She is preceded in death by her loving parents Lemuel and Victoria Turner, her beloved sister Ann Faison, and amazing nephews Sean Faison and Kevin Drake. She leaves to cherish her memory: her gracious daughter Shenae Turner, Virginia Beach, Va., incredible grandson Demontae Turner, Virginia Beach Va. strong son Daryl Turner Virginia Beach Va., one brother Dennis Turner Suffolk Va, one sister Sandra Phillps (Jame), Upper Marlboro Maryland, nieces and nephews Kim (Chris) Kelsey, Dana (Mandral) Blackmon, Joy, James, and Bernard, best friend Annie Thomas along with a host of nieces, nephew’s, cousins, aunts, uncles, and friends. Whether it was her many years of service for Norfolk Public Schools or her smiling face on Sundays at New Bethlehem, you could count on a kind word of love or encouragement.
