Obituary for Mary Jane Barnes (Hunter)

On April 18, 2021 Mary Jane Barnes heard the call of her heavenly father and transitioned from labor to reward. She was born in Halifax County, North Carolina to proud parents, Leroy Boone and Claudine Hunter.
Mary was reared in Norfolk Virginia and was a graduate of Booker T. Washington High School in Norfolk, Virginia. She met and married the love of her life, Anthony W. Barnes, Sr. To this union God granted two beautiful children.

Mary was a three ‘C’ woman; she was Caring, Comical as well as Confident. She took great lengths to help others in various areas that would help them live a productive rewarding life. She had dynamic character. She was truly a beautiful person.

Mary worked for Lifetouch Portraits helping to edit school portraits of children that parents eagerly awaited.
Mary had a personal relation with the Lord.

To know Mary was to know that she LOVED to get her hair done every two weeks; she told it how it truly was and said what was on her mind. She enjoyed music and listened to music in the car. Mary loved Monkeys … no one knows why; but still today…she has a bed full of monkeys.

Mary loved to go fishing and believe it or not, fish was also her favorite food.

Mary was preceded in death by her parents, Leroy Boone and Claudine Hunter; her husband, Anthony W. Barnes, Sr. and her brother, William Hunter.

Mary leaves to cherish her memories, her daughter, Tabia C. Barnes; her son, Anthony W. Barnes, Jr. (Deborah); five grandsons, Tre’quan Barnes, Demonte’ Barnes, Hunter Barnes, Anthony W. Barnes, III, Xavier Barnes; one granddaughter, Dakota Barnes; two brothers, Anthony Scott (Faith) and Terry Scott (Veeta); five nieces; two nephews; two very special friends like sisters, Patricia Talley, Gloria McCloud; a sister cousin, Carolyn Pittman; brother-in-law Dwayne Barnes; two sister-in-law’s, Sherry Chase and Dr. Gwendolyn Means.

Mary was a true woman of integrity; she is gone from our sight but will forever live on in our hearts.
