Harriet Thomas Godfrey was born to the late James and Ethel Thomas, in Pittsylvania County, VA on January 14th,1930. She was immersed in the Christian community that would be her lifelong support from an early age. She was a member of Enoch Baptist Church, where she ushered for 40 plus years.

Harriet was blessed with a large and loving family. She married Liston Godfrey She raised seven beautiful children with patience, discipline and humility. She sent them to school and instilled many lessons with each one of them.

Harriet was an educator at heart as well as a nurse at heart. She was kind, soft spoken, and always had time to cook a home cooked meal for anybody. Even though she was known for many homemade dishes, everyone knows that her banana pudding was undeniably untouched! She worked hard for many, many years. She will be dearly missed by her loved ones.

Harriet had fourteen brothers and sisters; she was the very last sibling to go home and be with The Lord. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Liston Godfrey.

Harriet is survived by her three sons, Calvin Thomas (Monica), Liston Godfrey, Jr., and Earl Godfrey (Trenda); four daughters, Beatrice Graves (Timothy), Jean Godfrey, Wanda Washington, and Karen Hunter (Larry); grandchildren, Marlos Thomas, Phonechia Graves, Shonda Godfrey, Timothy Graves Jr., Carlos Mathis, Larry Hunter Jr., Kandra Mathis, Erika Thomas, Antwan Hunter, Latrice Hunter, Jordanne Hare, and Tanajah Simpson; a special sister, Ethel Jackson; nieces; nephews; great grandchildren; as well as extended relatives family and friends.

Everybody that knew Harriet called her “Mahi”. She was a Mother figure to so many people. She made everybody feel loved and welcomed to her family. She loved her friends and family.

We loved her dearly but God loved her the best.
She was always happy and loved her family to the fullest.
