Obituary for Cora Lee Braithwaite (White)

Coral Lee Braithwaite (Boostie), age 90, of 2959 Beachmont Ave., passed away Sunday, May 9, 2021 (Mother’s Day) after a long illness at Sentara Hospice Home. She was born August 9, 1930 to the late Thomas White, Sr. and Pinkey Keeling White. She was predeceased in death by her husband, Jesse W. Braithwaite, Sr., daughter, Deborah Y. Melvin, and son, Kenneth Braithwaite. She attended St. Joseph Catholic School in Norfolk, VA.

She worked for over 30 years as a Domestic Engineer. If you ever took the time to really get to know Mother Braithwaite, you would have seen quite a different side of her. While she may have appeared tough, she was sweet and kind, loved her family and was like a second mom to many others as well.

She was a faithful, giving member at St. Paul Church of God in Christ where she wore the title and did the work of the Church Mother for over 60 years. Most notable for her excellent cooking you would usually find her in the church’s kitchen preparing food for the members and surrounding areas.

She leaves to cherish her memory two daughters, Angelus Payne of Norfolk, Regina Braithwaite-Pearson (James) of Norfolk, five sons, Jesse Braithwaite, Jr. (Armenta) of Stone Crest, GA., Cornell Braithwaite, Jerome Braithwaite, John Braithwaite, and Johnathan Braithwaite all of Norfolk, VA, 17 grandchildren, 32 great-grandchildren, 3 great great-grandchildren, a sister Dorothy K. Johnson of Winder, GA., 4 sisters-in-law, 3 brothers-in-law, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, a godson Marcus Whibee, and loving friends. Mother Braithwaite will be deeply missed by all, especially her family.
