Obituary for Dora Mae Ramsey (Johnson)

Dora Mae Ramsey, beloved and devoted wife, mother, and friend departed this life on Thursday, May 20, 2021. She was 82 years old. She spent her final days with her husband and daughter by her side. She is predeceased by her parents: grandmother Estella Harvey who raised her along with aunts Christine Hughes and Marie Harvey; her sister Gloria Johnson and her son Rodney Ramsey of Reston, VA. She leaves to cherish her memory her loving husband John Ramsey; daughter Lisa Ramsey; brother William Terry; cousin Ethel Mitchell; niece Sandra Smith and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and beloved friends from the Atlantic to the Pacific.

Dora was born in Norfolk, VA. She graduated from Booker T. Washington High School in 1957. After high school she served in the United States Army until honorably discharged in 1961. She went on to receive a degree in Nursing and an Associate degree in Accounting. Dora spent her early career as a Neonatal Intensive Care nurse. She began working at Naval Medical Center Portsmouth in 1972. She retired from Naval Medical Center Portsmouth with over 30 years of combined service working in Patient Information, Data Flow and Medical Records. She loved the Lord and enjoyed spending her Sundays attending the chapel at Naval Medical Center Portsmouth with her fellow parishioners who were her church family.

Dora was quiet, kind and had a beautiful smile. She was fond of reading and learning and although quiet, she enjoyed spirited discussions about current news and events. She loved her immediate and extended family and her friends very much. She will be dearly missed by all.
