Edith married her life partner, Edward C. Joyner on August 22, 1964, who departed from us on April 19, 2021. They were wed in Shiloh Baptist Church where she also served as an Usher for over 40 years.
Edy, as she was known to many, had a zest for life and lived it on her own terms. One would never have to guess how she felt about anything as she would certainly tell you. Edy had a heart of gold and didn’t like to see anyone hurt or going without. If she had it, you did too if you needed it. Her love for others was demonstrated through serving as a grandmother to Brittney Skutt and as a mother to Pam Gregory, as well as, being a bonus mom to several nieces and nephews, their children, and their children’s children all of whom have fond memories of “Aunt Edy”.
Edy was a business woman who utilized her talents. She became a licensed beautician in 1962 and used her cooking skills to own and operate a take-out restaurant. She loved music, and dancing; and had matching hats and shoes for every outfit - she was a true “fashionista”.
Edith leaves to cherish her memory her siblings Vernell Harris (Willie), Antoinette Askew, and Arnold Shands; a host of nieces, nephews, in-laws and friends who will miss her dearly.
