Obituary for Richard Lee Williams Sr.

Richard Lee Williams, Sr. was born into this world on November 3, 1940 to the late Elish and Lemon McCloud Williams in Fairfield, North Carolina. When he was very young, the family moved to Norfolk, where he attended Norfolk Public Schools. During his high school years, he played football at Booker T. Washington. Later, he received training as a welder and worked in that field for over 40 years. After retiring from welding, he began working at his beloved church (New Hope C.O.G.I.C) where he was responsible for opening and closing the church for its daycare and services. He so enjoyed being around his church family. After retiring, again, from the duties at the church, he continued to work around the church as a volunteer, distributing food to the homeless.

Richard was dedicated to God and family and was filled with compassion and respect for others. His spirit and words of wisdom will be our guide as we continue on our life’s journey.

Richard transitioned this earthly life on July 17, 2021. He was predeceased by his wife of 36 years, Daphine Wells Williams and five brothers, James T. Williams, Johnnie E. Williams, Dave J.
