Obituary for Noah Dancy Lawrence Jr.

Noah Dancy Lawrence, Jr. was born on September 4, 1938 in Norfolk, VA to the late Noah D. Sr. and Sarah Lawrence. Affectionately called “Brother” by his immediate family, Noah was the only son and youngest of 5 children. Three of his sisters (Marion Alston, Alcenia Harps & Lona Florence) preceded him in death.

Noah graduated from Booker T. Washington High School (Norfolk, VA) in June 1956 and enlisted in the United States Air Force the following month. He enjoyed a successful 20+ year military career, which included years in the law enforcement arena as a criminal and counterintelligence special agent with the Air Force Office of Special Investigations (AFOSI).

After retiring from the Air Force in 1976, Noah worked with the federal government as a Medicare & Medicaid analyst/investigator. He later returned to AFOSI in a civilian capacity as a Supervisory Special Agent and Division Chief. After leaving the government Noah became a partner and vice president of a D.C. based private security consulting and investigative firm and was later recruited as sales manager for a major national home security company.

Noah was described by many as a strong, yet quiet and soft-spoken person with wit and dedication to the professional and civic organizations of which he was a member.

Left to honor Noah’s memory are his children, Dorn M. Lawrence (Rose), Dr. Traci L. Jones (Rosial) and Nikeva D. Lawrence; 3 grandchildren, and 7 great grandchildren. Greatly mourning his death is his loving and devoted sister, Barbara Pritchard, of Norfolk. Noah is further survived by other relatives including 3 nieces, 1 nephew, several great-nephews and great-nieces; and a host of friends and colleagues.
