Obituary for Yvonne Regina Pinkard (DeBerry)
Yvonne Regina (DeBerry) Pinkard, loving mother of two and sister of three passed away on Tuesday, April 26, 2022 at the age of 74.
Yvonne was born on November 19, 1947 in Portsmouth, VA to Percell F. and Virginia E. DeBerry. She graduated from Our Lady of Victory Catholic School and I.C. Norcom High School (both in Portsmouth). She received her Bachelor of Arts degree from Hampton University (Institute), and obtained her Master of Business Administration from the prestigious Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania.
Yvonne loved people, books, information, and travel. Her parents sacrificed and saved so that she and her siblings could receive the best academic options for African American children in a segregated culture. Yvonne was a champion for education. She encouraged her twins to pursue and receive graduate degrees.
She was preceded in death by both parents Percell and Virginia, as well as her only brother Percell F. DeBerry, Jr. Survivors include her twin children Kenan Michael Pinkard, ESQ. and Khesa Virginia Pinkard, MBA; three sisters Maxine Hines, Patricia Nordstrom, and Vanessa Williams Harris. Yvonne is also survived by a host of loving cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends whose lives she touched in many special ways.
Memorial Services are scheduled for Saturday, May 7, at Graves Funeral Home, Norfolk, VA at 2 PM. Face masks are required. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that all contributions be made in her name to Children’s Hospice.
