Obituary for Jennifer Rae Walker (Brinson)

On Friday, June 3, 2022, Jennifer Rae’ Brinson Walker peacefully entered eternal rest.

Jennifer was born on December 2, 1968 in Atlanta, Georgia to the Reverend Dr. Albert Paul Brinson and Mrs. Vivian Welch Brinson. She spent her early years in Atlanta, Georgia and East Elmhurst Queens, New York. As a child, she was involved in church and community activities at both the historic Ebenezer Baptist Church in Atlanta and Antioch Baptist Church in East Elmhurst Queens. As a teenager, she moved to Virginia Beach with her family where she graduated with honors from Green Run High School. Jennifer attended Hampton University and later graduated from Norfolk State University with a Bachelor of Arts degree in English.

While attending Bank Street Memorial Baptist Church where her father was called to be pastor, Jennifer met the love of her life, Mark D. Walker. They married on July 27, 1991. Jennifer’s pride and joy are their children Jordyn Ashleigh Walker, an educator and honor graduate of Norfolk State University, and Marcus Xavier Walker, a rising senior and honor student at Norfolk State University.

Jennifer loved children and was a gifted teacher who spent her entire career in education. She was a teacher at KinderCare Learning Center in Chesapeake for ten years. She taught English for seventeen years at Norview Middle School in Norfolk. After teaching for two years at Bayside Middle School in Virginia Beach, she returned to teach in Norfolk Public Schools where she eventually retired. Jennifer was a loving, devoted, and caring teacher. Her passion for teaching was evident to her students who often came back to visit her.

Everyone who knew Jennifer knew of her passion for music and the arts. As a child, she took lessons, played the piano, organ, and violin. In high school, she was a member of the Madrigals and the Drama Club. She was a talented singer and performed with the I. Sherman Greene Chorale. She was also a legendary storyteller. Jennifer had an uncanny ability to retain every detail and recall them in a powerful and compelling manner.

Jennifer was a dedicated member of Bank Street Memorial Baptist Church. She generously shared her God given talents by serving as director of the Youth Choir, co-chair of the Youth Usher Ministry and co-founder of the Gospel Choir. She also served as director and lead singer for the Gospel Choir. One of the highlights of her service with the Gospel Choir was being a featured soloist with the Bank Street Gospel Choir at an exclusive performance in Vienna, Austria.

To cherish Jennifer’s remarkable life are her husband Mark D. Walker, daughter Jordyn A. Walker, son Marcus X. Walker, parents Albert P. and Vivian Brinson, brother Paul W. Brinson (Andreia), sister Lisa A. Brinson, in-laws Melvin J. and Gloria J. Walker, Gary E. Walker, Michael J. Walker (Anissa) and Corey D. B. Walker (Carthene), nephews and nieces Larry D.
