Obituary for Janis Yvonne Goode

On June 8th in the stiffness of morning, the Lord called Janis and told her “I need you to come home where there is no sickness and pain.” Janis closed her eyes and quietly slipped away at home under the care of her loving and dedicated sister Karen D Goode in Chesapeake Virginia.

Janis went to her heavenly home on Wednesday, June 08, 2022. She was a beloved Mother to 3 and grandmother of 5 and a Christian. Janis was a faithful woman who loved the Lord, her family, church, and community.

Janis spent a great deal of time living in the City of Baltimore Maryland and Ellicott City Maryland where she worshiped at New Psalmist Baptist Church in Baltimore Maryland.

Janis was born on April 13, 1956, to Lelia Goode- Cooper (Doughty) and Larry Good Sr. in Portsmouth Virginia. After Janis graduated, she went on to serve her country in the United States Army.

Janis was known for being incredibly passionate about her work and worked in several positions to include; The Howard County Police Department of Maryland, a substitute at Swanfield in Columbia Maryland, and finally FedEx Corporation as a Customer Service representative where she retired. She made friends and earned the respect of so many of her peers. She was described as a “Feisty Go-Getter” and often advanced faster than anyone else in the company”.

After moving back to Virginia in 2012, Janis joined Trinity Baptist Church under the leadership of Bishop O.L. Cromwell II. She became a member of the church and a member of the Prayer Warriors Ministries.

Janis is predeceased by both parents Lelia Goode- Cooper (Doughty) and Larry Good Sr. She is also predeceased by her brother Donald Jerome Goode. Janis leaves to cherish her memory Three children; Juanita Yvonne Saunders (Goode), Quiana N. Goode, James Anthony Goode, Five Grandchildren Adonte Q Burnell, Marlon J White Jr, Juele Meredith, Janyla Y Goode Jordan, and Liya Hiwot Goode. Janis has 5 siblings: Larry Goode Jr, Arnetta Brown, Charles M Goode, Karen D. Goode and Kenneth L Cooper.

Viewing will be a Graves Funeral Home 1631 Church St, Norfolk, VA 23504. Janis will be funeralized Friday, June 17th, 2022at Trinity Faith Diamond Church 1023 Deep Creek Blvd. in Chesapeake Virginia 23323.
