Obituary for Jonathan Augustus Griffin

I will think about you always, I will talk about you still
You will never be forgotten, no, you never will.
You will be close in my heart, there you will remain,
Until we meet again.
Love you, Dad.

October 21, 1977, was one of the happiest moments for Johnnie and Henrietta Cuffee Griffin as they welcomed their baby boy Jonathan Augustus Griffin into the family, making their family “complete”. Jonathan experienced issues with his health at a young age. He seemed to always be happy even though his life was full of ups and downs. In spite of these obstacles, he always remained hopeful that life would get better.

When Jonathan was 23, God called his mother, Henrietta, from her earthly home, leaving him forever wandering through life like a lost sheep trying to find his way. The grief was too much to bear. He attended school in the Deep Creek section of Chesapeake but enjoyed spending time in both Portsmouth and Chesapeake.

Jonathan could light up a room with his smile. He enjoyed sports and favored the New York Giants. If asked, he could answer most questions about all major sports. He never married nor had children, but children loved his joking. He was great in bringing smiles to you. In his adult life, he became adventurous and lived in West Virginia, North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia, Florida and finally back to Chesapeake, Virginia.

Jonathan is survived by his father, Johnnie A. Griffin, two sisters, Cordelia Hicks of Chesapeake, Virginia and Yolanda Griffin of Baltimore, Maryland; Aunts, Lynette Griffin Armstrong of Baltimore, Maryland, Rosa Caldwell, Judy Johnson, Dale Cuffee; an Uncle, Johnnie Newbold (Shirley) of Chesapeake, Virginia, a host of cousins, friends, and one very special friend, Shawntel Johnson.
