Obituary for James Clifton Robinson Jr.

“I have fought long and hard for my Lord, and through it all, I have kept true to Him. And now the time has come for me to stop fighting and rest.” (2 Tim 4:7 TLB) With those sentiments, James “Jay” Clifton Robinson, Jr. entered into eternal rest on Saturday, June 18, 2022 at Chesapeake Regional Hospital (after a battle with Multiple Myeloma and Covid-19). He was born April 26, 1962 to the late June M. and James C. Robinson, Sr. in Norfolk, VA and was their youngest child. He was married to Marion Robinson and they have two daughters. His faith in Christ began at First Baptist Church, Bute Street, Norfolk where he was active in the youth usher board, choir and became a Boy Scout. His spiritual growth continued at Calvary Revival Church, Norfolk, where he was a Tutor to area youth and Team Leader for the Parking Ministry.

Jay was a 1981 honor graduate of Norview High School. He matriculated at Old Dominion University, where he received a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science. Jay had notable achievements throughout his educational life such as National Honor Society, citizenship awards and achieved the highest standardized test score in the City of Norfolk. Jay had a thirst for knowledge and kept apprised of the latest advancements in technology, electronics, engineering and software. He shared his knowledge with the younger generation. He pledged Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. while studying engineering at Virginia Tech University.

He completed the Apprenticeship Program at Norfolk Naval Shipyard where he worked as an Electronics Mechanic and trained under Marion’s sister, Eleanor, who introduced them. After they married, James was hired as a Software Engineer with W.R. Systems, Ltd. where he became the Software Lead on his Team.

Jay loved watching tennis matches, jazz, good humor, superhero movies, playing computer games and leading his family Bible Studies. Soft-spoken but wise, Jay was proud and supportive of his daughters in their academic and recreational pursuits. Not only would he practice sports with them, but he also didn’t hesitate in helping them practice their praise dance movements! He also supported Marion in her love of fishing. He enjoyed sharing his favorites with his Girls: “Sanford & Son,” “The Dick Van Dyke Show,” “Brooklyn Nine-Nine,” “Blazing Saddles,” “Little Shop of Horrors,” and “The Chosen”. He looked forward to attending the Coleman Family Reunions, when he could.

When Marion was away on business trips, Jay would happily comb the girls’ hair. Somehow, their Teachers always knew when Mom was away! But his skill in parenting and nurturing did not make Mom’s absence difficult for his daughters.

Those left to cherish his memory are his wife, Marion “DoBee” (Parson) Robinson; daughters Janelle (23) and Sophia Robinson (18) of Chesapeake, VA; sister Lynette Rhodes (Clifford, Sr.) of Norfolk, VA; Siblings-in-Love: David Parson (Frances) and Constance Mamma of Chesapeake, VA, Eleanor Hoy (Barry) of Naples, FL, Charles Willis (Tammy) and Andrea Edwards of Norfolk, VA; aunts Florence Easley (William, Sr.) and Vivian Thurston of Silver Spring, MD. Additionally, there are many loving relatives, co-workers, church family and friends who have fond memories of him.

“In heaven a crown is waiting for me, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will give me on that great day of His return. And not just to me but to all those whose lives show that they are eagerly looking forward to His coming back again.” (2 Tim 4:8 TLB)
