Obituary for Dr. Darlene Michelle Harmon (Clayton)

Dr. Darlene Michelle Harmon peacefully entered into eternal rest on July 30, 2022,surrounded by family. She was born to Eddie Richard Clayton, Jr. (predeceased) and Mary Ricks Clayton in Norfolk, VA on February 1, 1965 and lived a full life glittered with accomplishments related to her cherished roles as a wife, mother, daughter, grandmother, friend, and educator.

She was preceded in death by her father Eddie Richard Clayton, Jr. and sister Dana A. Lamb. She leaves to honor her legacy, continue her acts of service, and celebrate her life “the love of her life,” her husband of 19 years, Clifton M. Harmon, Jr; “the apple of her eye,” her daughter, Dr. Brandy D. Wicker (John Edward Wicker, III); her stepson, Clifton M. Harmon, III (Kiara); her stepdaughter, Monik Harmon; her grandchildren -Bella Grace Wicker, Daija Wicker, Demari Wicker, Clifton M. Harmon, IV, Kylan Harmon, and Harper Michelle Wicker; her brother, Eddie Richard Clayton, IV; her niece, Chanelle Lamb; her nephews, Deonte’ Lamb and Eddie Johnson Clayton; her great-niece, Naomi Lamb; and a host of family and friends.

Dr. Darlene Harmon dedicated her life to loving and being loved by her husband, supporting and loving her daughter, serving her students and school communities, and cherishing her friends and family - all while setting and attaining a standard of excellence for those around her. In 2011, God tasked Darlene with a journey that many would not have been able to bear. Though her journey was riddled with month-long hospital visits, trips to several specialists, many calls for her family to place her in hospice, and an unbearable pain, Darlene always had a smile on her face, laughter in her heart, an IPad and passport in her hand, and packages at the door.

For every time that man counted her out and prepared for her death, God sent her a word that it was not her time to go. She remained faithful and committed to God’s plan despite the daily challenges that she faced. Then, on Saturday, July 30, 2022, God softly called her home as she had completed her purpose driven life. We know that God, her father, and sister welcomed her into heaven with open arms and proudly exclaimed, “Well done, my good and faithful servant.”
