Obituary for Edith Mae Robinson (Day)

Mrs. Edith Mae Robinson, age 67 of Norfolk, Virginia peacefully passed away on September 7, 2022 at her Norfolk residence surrounded by her beloved husband of 22 years, Earl Robinson Sr.

She was born on August 27, 1955 to parents James R. and the late Lillie Mae Day in Norfolk Community Hospital, Norfolk, VA. She attended Norfolk Public Schools.

Edith spent over 30 years working at Stonehouse Restaurant on Military Highway in Norfolk as the head cook where she was well-known and admired. She was a strong and compassionate woman who believed in taking care of her customers. She made sure your plate was made hardy, with kindness and a dash of love.

A consummate homemaker, Edith was an excellent wife, grandmother and auntie who enjoyed preparing meals for her family and friends. She had so much fun playing bingo, card games, laughing and reminiscing the old days. Edith also loved to watch horror movies and cowboy westerns. But most of all, she was an avid sports fan who enjoyed watching football, basketball, boxing, tennis and car racing to name a few. She loved the Dallas Cowboys and the Chicago Bulls. Michael Jordon and Mike Tyson were two of her favorite sports personalities. Her favorite hobby was raising birds. She owned and raised birds her entire adult life and they loved her. This gentle, loving, caring and wonderful woman has left a permanent mark etched on our hearts and will be supremely missed.

Edith was predeceased by her loving mother Lillie Mae Day and sisters LeVerne Sedgwick and Vanessa Williams. Edith is survived by her husband Earl Robinson Sr. She is also survived by six stepchildren, Vernon (Brenda) Robinson of Rich Square, NC, Earl (Lashawna) Robinson Jr. of Portsmouth, VA, Demetrius (Ramona) Robinson of Virginia Beach, VA, Marlon Robinson of Raleigh, NC, Camelita Hairston of Raleigh, NC and Kenya Muncy of Blacklick, OH, 14 grandchildren, four great grandchildren, father James R. Day of Virginia Beach, VA, sister Lisa Highter of Maryland and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Her niece, Aline “Tiny” Northern was lovingly raised by Edith as her own daughter and held a very special place in her heart. The relationship they had was not like any other. She wanted nothing more than for “Tiny” to have a wonderful life. She shared a special bond with childhood/best friend Kimberly Sears, cousin Teresa Hobbs of New York, best friends Margaret Hodnett, Estelle Alexander and Rosetta Hartley of Virginia. Edith’s niece Samantha Northern and great niece Brena Northern also provided assistance with her care. The family gives them and everyone else who cared for Edith their greatest gratitude.

The family will receive friends on Friday, September 16, 2022, from 2:00 – 6:00 PM at Graves Funeral Home. A funeral service celebrating her life will be held the following day on Saturday, September 17, 2022, at 3:00 PM at Graves Funeral Home 1631 Church Street, Norfolk, VA 23504.
