Obituary for James Armon Newkirk Sr.

Because he lived…
A Life Celebration Story For Our Loved One,
JAMES ARMON NEWKIRK, SR.
II CORINTHIANS 5:8
TO BE ABSENT FROM THE BODY, IS TO BE PRESENT WITH THE LORD.

Our angel, James A. Newkirk. Sr., affectionately known as “Doc”, gained his wings and returned to heaven on September 13, 2022. James, a Virginia Beach resident, was born in Norfolk, Virginia on November 21, 1946.

James was the son of the late Margie E. Melvin and the stepson to Charles E. Melvin. James was raised by Margie (aka) Elaine and Charles in the Huntersville and Chesterfield Heights neighborhoods of Norfolk. After graduating high school, James furthered his education by going to the prestigious University of North Carolina A&T, where he received his Bachelors degree.

James returned to the Hampton Roads area and worked for the City of Norfolk, where he retired after 20 years of employment. In his leisure, he loved to entertain. He was the “Doc”tor of Jazz and Soul to us all.

James (aka) Doc soon met and married his beautiful lifelong partner, Mrs. Annette E. Newkirk. She passed away in 2018 but together, she and James left a legacy of love to their family. They were married for 35 wonderful years.

Left to cherish his memories are his two sons: James Armon Newkirk, Jr and Andre Shawn Newkirk; two grandchildren: Armon Isiah Newkirk and Jordan James Newkirk; three brothers-in-law: William Z. Eure, Roosevelt T. Bradley and Nathaniel K. Bradley; two sisters-in-law: Lisa Bradley and Clarine Bradley, as well as a host of other family members and friends.

We will remember those spins forever! “Keep Spinning Doc”. We will always love and remember and never forget.
