On Monday, September 19, 2022, God called William “Bill” Lester Cameron to his heavenly home.
Bill was born January 24, 1945 to the late William S. Cameron and Celeste Cameron in Norfolk, Virginia. He was the eldest of two children. He was preceded in death by his sister Vander Lee Smith. He was raised and educated in Norfolk, Virginia. He attended Liberty Park Elementary, Ruffner Junior High School and later graduated from Booker T. Washington High School in 1962. He was one of the first eighteen students/cadets to be accepted into the 1st Advanced Reserved Training Corps program at Norfolk State University in September 1964.
In 1966, Bill graduated from Norfolk State University and was commission as a 1st Lieutenant in the United States Army. He was a veteran. In 1970, he began his career with C&P Telephone Company (now known as Verizon) and worked until his retirement in 2002.
He has been a member of Second Calvary Baptist Church since he was 14 years old where he faithfully served as member, and former co-chairman of the Trustee Ministry. He also served as a member of the Male Ushers’ Ministry.
He loved to travel, landscape, and watch the weather channel. He also enjoyed traveling by RV with his family and grandchildren. Some of the places they traveled to were Canada, Yellowstone, Grand Canyon and multiple trips to Disneyworld in Florida. He spent many hours beautifying his lawn and was passionate about his yard.
Bill leaves to cherish his memory his loving wife of 52 years, Julia L. Cameron of Chesapeake, Virginia; two sons, William C. Cameron (Deborah) of Chesapeake, Virginia and Daryl Cameron (Kenisha) of Richmond, Virginia; four grandchildren, William C. Cameron, Jr., Deborah Patrice Cameron, Sydney Elise Cameron and Emory Isaiah Cameron; an uncle, Robert Carter, Sr.; brothers-in-law, King David Smith and Clarence Reavling (Diane); sisters-in-law, Beverly Moore and Jacquelyn Willis; special cousins, Isaac Snowden, Sr. (Yvonne), Jean Watkins and Diane Bazemore. Lifelong friends, Carl Wynn and Curtis Hurdle; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
