The race is not given to the swift or to the strong, but to the one who endures to the end.
Ecclesiastes 9:11
The Lord called Rodney E. White to his heavenly home on October 19, 2022. He is predeceased by his parents Eugene Mitchell and Shirley White Baker. Rodney was affectionately known as Gene-Eugene. Eugene was educated in the Norfolk Public Schools. Eugene was employed with Iron Mountain Trucking for several years. Gene-always had a love for sports, especially football. He was a “die hard” Washington Redskins fan who never missed a televised game and considered himself the coach and commentator for the team after each game. He also loved his cars. His Cadillac was his favorite, and he would wipe that baby down every time he stepped foot near it.
He loved listening to music….. Oldies were his favorite. He had a passion for living his best life and spending time with his family.
Gene’s faith in God was strong. He was a member of New Calvary Baptist Church. He enjoyed going to worship at his church. He never failed to share his faith with his family and friends, especially with his children. He loved his family, and his children/granddaughter were his joy…his “babies” as he called them. Gene was a selfless and compassionate husband, son, father, grandfather, brother, and friend. He will be missed for his no-nonsense and straightforward personality, his generous spirit to help others, and his style and love of clothes and hats.
Memories of Gene’s life will be cherished by the love of his life, his loving wife; Vanessa G. White; two Sons, Tyrone M. Gregory and Allen T. Gregory; One Granddaughter, Diamond P. Liles; Stepmother, Beverly Mitchell; Three Sisters, Debbie Walston, Dorothy Williams and Kimberly Faulks; One Brother, Eugene Williams, and a host of Nieces, Nephews Cousins and friends who will be forever grateful for being a part of his life.
Rest on Gene
