Darlene Warnette Johnson known to most as “Dee Jay” or “Dee” was born on January 1, 1957.
She departed this life on November 5, 2022 at Sentara Heart Hospital. Darlene was the daughter of Alma Thomas and John Warner Johnson. She graduated from Maury High School in June of 1975.
After graduating, Darlene joined the United States Army and entered service in Richmond, Virginia. She served three years in the Army. After her active duty service, Darlene served 10 years in the Virginia National Guard. During her time in service, she was awarded the Expert Rifle Marksmanship and Good Conduct Medals. Darlene was stationed at Fort Wainwright of Alaska with the 172D Infantry Brigade, 329th Support Group of Virginia Beach, and the United States Army Headquarters 3rd Brigade Combat Team of Fort Dix, New Jersey.
Following her military service she worked as a home health care provider.
She is preceded in death by her father John Warner Johnson “Bobby”, grandfathers John J. Thomas and John J H. Johnson; grandmothers Helen Johnson and Anna Thomas.
She leaves behind her mother, Alma Thomas; a host of family and friends, her Faith Deliverance Christian Center Family, friend Delores Mercer and aunt, Sara Davis.
