Obituary for Rev. Dr. Dalla Blanche Nottingham (Greene)

Very quietly and peacefully on February 23, 2023, Almighty God in His infinite wisdom reached down and called home his faithful servant.

Rev. Dr. Dalla Greene Nottingham was born May 14, 1932 in Williamston, NC. Dr. Nottingham is one of eight children: Austin Greene, Sue Greene, Betty Greene, Marva Fields, Joyce Moore, Betsy (Cornell) Hamon, Sharon Boyd and Shelia Smith born to the late Robert Henderson Greene and Sue Watson Greene.

Dr. Nottingham received her former education in North Carolina and New York Public School Systems. She was a member of the Roanoke Missionary Baptist Association, the Women’s Missionary and Education Convention and the Hampton University Minister’s Conference. She was also past President of the Roanoke Theological Seminary General Alumni Association and a member of the Old Dominion Missionary Baptist Association Minister Conference.

Dr. Nottingham was called to Pastor while serving as President of her Missionary Board and as a volunteer Chaplain at Norfolk (Sentara) General Hospital. With much prayer, she answered her call by saying “Yes Lord I’ll Go By Faith.” She was ordained at the request of her Pastor at Christian Home Missionary Baptist Church by the Roanoke Missionary Baptist Association on February 9, 1986. Our mother had a passion for education, as she continued her education by earning her Bachelor of Divinity from Roanoke Theological Seminary, Bachelor of Theology from United Christian College, Master of Divinity from Richmond Virginia Seminary and Doctor of Divinity from United Christian College. After being called and ordained Dr. Nottingham founded and was Pastor of Faith Baptist Community Church. Dr. Nottingham was a faithful member and associate minister at Antioch Missionary Baptist Church during her later years.

Dr. Nottingham was a widow of many years and the mother of two daughters, Wanda Smith and Cheryl Mosley (Clarence), three granddaughters, Deshara Wilson, Tenesha Mata and Caleia Mosley, three great grandchildren, Keanu Wilson, Harlem Brown and Phoenix Mata and two great great grandchildren, Vincent Wilson and Xander Wilson.

Dr. Nottingham is predeceased in death by her husband Warren Nottingham, her brother, Austin Greene, and three sisters, Joyce Greene, Betty Greene and Shelia Smith.

Dr. Nottingham is survived by her two daughters Wanda Smith and Cheryl Mosley (Clarence), her three grandchildren, Deshara Wilson, Tenesha Mata and Caleia Mosley, three great grandchildren, Keanu Wilson, Harlem Brown and Phoenix Mata and two great great grandchildren, Vincent Wilson and Xander Wilson, three sisters, Marva Fields, Betsy Cornell Hamon (Josh) and Sharon Boyd. She also leaves a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
