She is also survived by a host of family and friends.

Phyllis Springs was the most talented woman the world will ever know. she was an intelligent, artistic, fashionable, loving, protective, strong willed woman of God! She truly could do anything she put her mind to. One of Phyllis’ amazing talents is that she loved to sew. In fact, she sewed all the bridesmaids dressed that were in her wedding party. Phyllis was a member of First Calvary Baptist Church. She worked and volunteered for many committees and programs at First Calvary Baptist Church, and one
of her biggest honors was becoming part of the Deaconess board and Female Usher Board #1.

Phyllis was a true trailblazer in her community. She was filled with compassion, love, and she was passionate about caring for others. Phyllis had a compassionate heart towards the youth. She loved children and has always been an advocate while being a kindhearted nurturing person to everybody. She was a mother figure to anybody she came across and she never left any child behind. She had an amazing way of making people feel welcomed, loved, and accepted. She loved to teach and educate people. She had a special way of commanding a room, but not making anyone feel like she wasn’t approachable. She would smile and talk to you softly, in a serious tone, while showing you her beautiful smile. It would bring calm to any situation.

Phyllis had a strong work ethic and believed in the importance of obtaining higher education. She always told her children and anyone who would listen about the importance of obtaining a college education and the importance of knowing where you come from. Phyllis attended Norfolk State University where she obtained her bachelor’s degree in business administration and a Master of Social Work degree. She worked for Thalhimers, Farm Fresh, Dillard’s, the Pines Treatment Center, Norfolk Social Services and prior to her passing, Phyllis was a Site-Assigned Substitute teacher for Virginia Beach Public schools and taught at Luxford Elementary school since 2020-2021, school year. Her colleagues spoke highly of her work ethics. She came to work every day with a smile on her face ready to cover classes and support students in need. She was an integral part of the Luxford Elementary School family.

Although Phyllis worked a lot, she enjoyed many hobbies and events. She loved to sing and had a beautiful voice. If you ever had the chance to stand next to her in church, you could hear her beautiful soprano voice radiate in such an angelic way that was so captivating. She loved to travel, and Phyllis loved listening to Toni Braxton and going out to see one of her most loved performers, Patti LaBelle, perform at Busch Gardens. The joy and smile she would have on her face as Patti LaBelle would yell out, What’s My Name and the crowd would scream Patti Patti, was priceless!!!

Phyllis Springs is a true woman of class. She was very well educated and always wanted her children to obtain the highest honors, respect, and distinction. Phyllis was the fun aunt, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend to so many people. She will truly be missed by all!
