After spending a wonderful Father's Day surrounded by the love of family and friends, Tyrone Jones, affectionately known as "Peter," peacefully transitioned to his eternal resting place on June 22, 2026, at the comfort of his home.

Born to the late Percel and Goldie Jones, Tyrone was the third of eight children. He was preceded in death by his beloved sisters, Beverly Jones and Sybil Custer.

Tyrone was a proud graduate of Maury High School, Class of 1971. During his high school years, he distinguished himself as one of the area's premier defensive linebackers. His exceptional athletic ability earned him recognition in the Virginia Pilot, where his relentless style of play led to the memorable nickname "Creeper," a name many would remember throughout the years.

Tyrone had a deep appreciation for life and the simple joys it offered. He loved classic cars, traveling, sharing a good meal, and, above all, making people laugh. A natural jokester, he never missed an opportunity to tease those he loved or brighten someone's day with his quick wit and infectious sense of humor. A devoted fan of the Dallas Cowboys, he proudly wore his team's colors through every season. Tyrone was known for speaking his mind with honesty and conviction, always standing firmly behind his beliefs. More than anything, he treasured the time he spent with his family and friends, creating memories that will forever be cherished.

Throughout his career, Tyrone dedicated himself to serving his community. He worked for several years at the Elizabeth City Tunnel and later at General Electric. However, he is best remembered for his distinguished career with the Norfolk Police Department, where he faithfully served for 27 years, retiring with the rank of Sergeant. Even after retirement, his commitment to public service continued as he joined Norfolk Public Schools as an Administrative Resource Officer, where he positively impacted countless students and staff before deciding to fully retire.

Tyrone leaves behind a legacy of love, strength, laughter, and service. He will be forever cherished by his loving sons, Antawn Jones and Ortiz Jones; his devoted daughter, Katrina Russell-Otey (Frank); his brothers, Victor Jones and Rico Jones; and his sisters, Lolita Jones and Ethel Harrell.

He also leaves to treasure his memory his beloved grandchildren: Akeem Jones (Shantia),Nigel Jones,Rashad Russell, Kia Russell, Frank Otey and Zavian Jones; his cherished great-grandchildren: Elijah Majette, Serenity Jones, and Akeem Jones Jr. He will also be deeply missed by a host of loving nieces, nephews, extended family members, dear friends, and all whose lives were touched by his kindness, humor, and unwavering spirit.

Though Tyrone's physical presence is no longer with us, the love he shared, the laughter he inspired, and the example of dedication and service he lived will remain in the hearts of those who knew and loved him. His legacy will continue for generations to come.
