Senie A. Moore (Thatch) Obituary

Mrs. Senie Aronia Thatch Moore was born in Norfolk, Virginia, on May 31, 1934, to the late William Thatch of Hertford, North Carolina, and the late Ardean Anthony Thatch of Elizabeth City, North Carolina. On Tuesday, September 22, 2026, she peacefully answered the call of her Lord and Savior and entered eternal rest at the age of 92.

Senie was nurtured in the Christian faith at New Calvary Baptist Church, where she accepted Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior. She graduated from Booker T. Washington High School in the Class of 1952. During her high school years, she participated in the pre-nursing program and was a member of the Booker T. Washington High School Choir during her senior year.

Following high school, Senie attended the Norfolk Division of Virginia State College, now known as Norfolk State University, for two years. It was during this time that she met the love of her life and future husband, Dr. Joseph E. Moore. She later graduated from Bellevue School of Nursing and went on to earn her master’s degree in public health nursing from New York University.

Upon completing her education, Senie returned to Norfolk and began a distinguished career in nursing. She served as a nursing instructor, where she made a lasting impact on the lives of countless students at Norfolk State and Old Dominion Universities. She later briefly served as Director of the Virginia Beach Health Department before retiring.

Senie was a devoted member of the historic Bank Street Memorial Baptist Church for more than 60 years. Throughout her years of faithful service, she was a member of the Senior Choir and became one of the first female deacons at Bank Street in December of 1986. She passionately served God and His people and was a faithful witness to her Christian faith.

Senie leaves to cherish her beautiful memory and celebrate her life three beloved children: one son, Vincent K. Moore, Sr. (Wendy) of Chesapeake, Virginia; and two daughters, Tracey L. Moore of Norfolk, Virginia, and Kimberly Moore Cooper of Columbia, Maryland.

She also leaves four grandchildren: Vincent K. Moore, Jr. (Kiana) of Dumfries, Virginia; Keith L. Moore (Kemi) of Dumfries, Virginia; Taylor K. Moore (Keyanah) of Hampton, Virginia; and Nigel A. Cooper of Columbia, Maryland. Her legacy continues through her three great-grandchildren, Jaiden Glover, Aaliyah Moore, and Londyn Moore, with one more great-grandchild on the way. She will also be lovingly remembered by a host of other relatives, friends, and members of the church community whose lives she touched throughout her years
