Vernestine B. Taylor (age 62) of 1412 Shipp Avenue, Norfolk, Virginia was called from labor to reward on Tuesday, April 19, 2016 at Sentara Norfolk General Hospital, Norfolk, VA. She was a native of Waverly, VA and the daughter of the late Ernest and Emma Lee Brown.
She was a graduate of Sussex Central High School, Class of 1972. She furthered her education and received a Bachelor Degree in Special Education in 1977 at Norfolk State University.
She retired from Norfolk State University on June 5, 2015 after 35 years of service as a Facility Management Supervisor. She loved to serve the students at W. H. Taylor Elementary School in Norfolk, VA.
Vernestine was a member of the Downtown Church of Christ in Norfolk, VA where she attended service faithfully.
She was a loving, outgoing person who loved to regulate and have things in order, travel with her family and walk with her friends. Her motto was "Keep Hope Alive" as she faced her daily struggles. Her favorite song was "I Won't Complain." She was a special friend to all that knew her and will be greatly missed.
She was preceded in death by her brother McCoy Brown.
She leaves to cherish her precious and loving memories, her six brothers: Mr. Ernest Brown Jr. (Ida) of Chesterfield, VA, Mr. Morris Brown of Waverly, VA, Mr. Calvin Brown of Columbia, MO, Mr. Mark Brown of Wakefield, VA, Mr. Earl and Mr. Wayne Brown of Waverly, VA; her five sisters: Mrs. Gwendolyn Harris (Donald) of Petersburg, VA, Mrs. Faye Williams (Edward) of Bacliff, TX, Mrs. Martha Manley (Ron) of Highland Springs, VA, Ms. Emily and Ms. Hope Brown of Waverly, VA; her four uncles: Mr. John Brown of Baltimore, MD, Mr. James Brown (DeAnna) of Baltimore, MD, Mr. William Brown (Dorothy) of Petersburg, VA and Mr. James Smith of Petersburg, VA; her five aunts: Mrs. Ruth Joyner of Suffolk, VA, Mrs. Gearlean B. Keaton (James) of Hampton, VA, Mrs. Muzelle B. Musgrove (Silas) of Chesterfield, VA, Mrs. Alice Brown, Wakefield, VA, Mrs. Dorothy Clark (Richard) of Wakefield, VA; and one great aunt, Mrs. Bernice Holmes of Waverly, VA; Mother-in-law, Mrs. Eurgentine Taylor: five brother-in-laws: Mr. Clinton Taylor (Thomasine), Mr. Donald Taylor, Mr. Ricky Taylor, Mr. Gerald Taylor (Yolanda), Mr. Isaiah Taylor (Denise); two sister-in-laws: Mrs. Gwendolyn Johnson (Waverly) and Mrs. Wanda Brown.
Her devoted friend and caregiver Mr. Earl Whidbee.
She also leaves behind numerous loving nieces, nephews, cousins, relatives and many special friends.
