Michael Robert Gill, of Norfolk, VA, a beloved father, grandfather, brother, uncle, cousin, and friend was called to his eternal home, on Sunday, December 4, 2016, after a courageous and inspiring battle with cancer. He was born on February 16, 1968, in Norfolk, VA, to the late Bryant and Ardelia Gill. Michael was preceded in death by his parents, Bryant and Ardelia Gill; two brothers, Bryant Gill and Robert Gill, Sr., and two sisters, Linda Gill and Sandra Gill-Neal. Michael was a graduate of Booker T. Washington High School, class of 1986, and a member of the football team. While attending Booker T. Washington High School, he developed a very special, and unified bond with his classmates, that stands true, to this very day. After graduating from high school, he attended Norfolk State University. He was a very talented person, who excelled in the sales industry, working many years as an automotive salesman, supervisor, and site manager. Most recently, he held a position at the Newport News Shipyard and BAE Systems as a painter. Michael was a dedicated Pittsburgh Steelers fan, who was passionate about football. He was always full of life, had a loving spirit and sought to bring laughter to those around him, no matter the situation. Michael was raised in a Loving, Christian home, where he was taught the Word of God, and recently gave his life to Christ!
Those left to cherish his memory are his two sons, Michael Carey of Ft. Meyers, FL and Montrell Carey of Richmond, VA; one granddaughter, Leah Carey of FL; three sisters, Carolyn (Lester) Johnson of Chesapeake, VA, Janet (Carlos) Gill-Perez, and Kimberly Gill both of Norfolk, VA; and one brother Albert (Shelby) Gill, Sr. of Norfolk, VA; a special friend and mother of his children, Melinda Carey-Sistare; one aunt, Ruth White of New York; two sisters in law, Juanita Gill of Virginia Beach, VA and Beverly Gill of Norfolk, VA; a very special cousin, Alethia ‘Cake’ Roseboro; two God-sisters, Eldress Diane Coston and Pastor Alethia Abraham; one God-brother, Robert Forbes; lifelong brotherly, inseparable bonds with Don Capers, Yale Eason, Eddie Smallwood and Tory Locke; a trusted and faithful friend, Kenny Wallace; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
