Libby B. Coote went home to glory on March 30, 2017. Born to the late Grace Johnson on June 20, 1935 in Franktown, VA, Libby received her early education on the Eastern Shore before attending Norfolk State University where she met her first husband, Robert Lee Davenport. From that union, she raised four children. Libby was blessed to have found love a second time in her life when she met and married the late Deacon John Coote. With this union, Libby expanded her family with the inclusion of five more children.
Libby was employed with the Visiting Nurses Association where she worked for over 20 years before retiring in 1998.
Libby was ordained as Deaconess on October 13, 1991, at Messiah Baptist Church in Bridgeport, CT under the late Reverend Reuben E. Williams. In her many years of service, she worked in many roles and organizations to include the Gospel Choir, Willing Workers, Project Concern, and the Deaconess board, where she served as Secretary, Treasurer, Vice President and President and was one of the first women to serve communion.
After relocating to Norfolk, VA in August 2001, Libby joined First Baptist Church Logan Park where she became involved in the Sr. Choir, Nurses Ministries, Sunday School and the Deaconess Board. Libby was promoted to Deaconess Emeritus status on October 20, 2016.
Libby was the anchor and strength of her family, and will be missed for her words of wisdom, encouragement, advice and love. There are no words to express all that she meant to those who knew and loved her.
Libby leaves behind to cherish her memory her son, Robert Davenport, Jr of Oregon; daughters, Arnetta Coote of Bridgeport, CT; Renae Morrow of NC; Arlene Brown of Chesapeake, VA; Anita Coote and Karen Davenport of Norfolk, VA, 17 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren, 1 great-great grandchild , and a host of close friends.
