On May 13, 2017, Augmontine R. Snowden Davis left the cares
of this world and transitioned into eternity.
Augmontine was born in Norfolk on December 21, 1951 to Gloria
Snowden Brown and had seven siblings – Angela D. Smith, Rodney
Williams, Diane Beverly, Ernest L. Brown, Jr., Sandra B. Harper, Dorothea B. Williams and Lynette B. Hillman. She was predeceased by her Step-Father, Ernest Brown, Sr.
She attended Norfolk Public Schools, graduating from Maury High School. Augmontine was married to George Earl Davis, Sr. for 44 years and was the mother of a daughter, Plushette and a son, George. She was also the proud grandmother of one grandson, Jevarias and worked hard at being a Homemaker and later as a Teacher Assistant at Greenhill Farms Academy, Norfolk.
Augmontine was a faithful member of Mount Olive Baptist Church, Norfolk where, prior to the decline of her health, she was active in Vacation Bible School, Women’s Ministry and Golden Years’ Ministry. She had such a fondness for working with children. She was fondly termed “The Best and Worst Babysitter” because she allowed the children to enjoy themselves as they did “whatever” they wanted to do while having fun. She also enjoyed shopping, sewing, cooking, playing games with children and having pets.
When Augmontine’s family reflect on her memory, they will recall how loving, funny, understanding and passionate she was. They will remember her sincere, dedicated and trustworthy personality. Her mom especially recalls their long conversations and Augmontine’s loyalty to family and friends.
She leaves to cherish her memory her mother, Gloria Snowden Brown, Norfolk, VA; a daughter, Plushette R, Snowden, Cleveland, Ohio; a son, George Earl Davis, Jr., Norfolk, VA; a grandson, Jevarias M. Snowden, Detroit, Michigan; one great-granddaughter, Nyomi Snowden; one great-grandson, Jay Snowden; seven siblings: Angela D. Smith (Thomas), Rodney Williams, Diane B. Beverly (Theodore), Ernest L. Brown, Jr., Sandra B. Harper (Arthur, Sr.), Dorothea B. Williams (Robert) and Lynette B. Hillman (Dana); and a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins.
