Dolores Bernice Spain (Taylor)
“Celebration of Life”
On Wednesday, August 16, 2017, the Lord called Dolores Bernice Spain home to eternal rest. Dolores was born on December 7, 1941 to the late James and Minnie Taylor. She was married to the late Andrew Spain.
Dolores attended Booker T. Washington High School in Norfolk, Virginia. She was a bus driver for Norfolk Public Schools from October 1980 to February 2006. She drove bus number 444. Dolores loved the Lord, her church, and her church family. She was a faithful member of Metropolitan AME Zion Church for over 60 years. As a devoted member, Dolores served on several ministries: 21st Booster Club, Willing Workers, Alter Guild, Women’s Fellowship, Annie B. Pollard Missionary Society, Senior & Jubilee Gospel Choir, Usher Board #2, Stewardess Board, and Tribe Leader for Zebulon.
In 1980, Dolores was awarded “Mother of the Year” at Metropolitan AME Zion Church. In 1997, she was awarded “Norfolk Public Schools’ Bus Driver of the Year.” Dolores was loved everywhere she went. She loved watching wrestling (WWE) and talking about how much her grandsons has made her so proud. She enjoyed eating and spending time with her family and friends. Two of her favorite sayings were “sure you right” and “how bout it.”
Dolores was predeceased by her father, James Taylor, and mother, Minnie Taylor. She leaves to cherish her memory, her children, Dennis “Andre” Spain (Edwina) of Norfolk, VA and Denise “Renee” Southall (Calvin) of Surry County, VA; two special grandsons that she personally adored and raised with all her might, Lance Taylor (Tomeika) of Portsmouth, VA and Lamont Taylor (Tiffany) of Virginia Beach, VA; two sisters, Sheila Morris (Jim) of Virginia Beach, VA and Gloria Moore of Chesapeake, VA; one brother, James Taylor, Jr. (Susan) of Saint Paul, Minnesota; grandchildren, DeAndre’ Brown, Johrden Spain, Nahdia Spain, & Cydni Williams; great grandchildren, Trimont Hayes, Beonce’ Taylor, Trivon Taylor, Beyonca Taylor, Melachai Taylor, Darren Brown, and Brooklyn Taylor; a special friend for many years, Camilla Oden; and a host of nephews, great nieces, cousins and friends.
