Emmett Adrian DeCosta Jr. also known to most as E.J., suddenly departed this life on December 13, 2020. He was born during a snowy winter night to Pamela Chesson and Emmett DeCosta Sr. on February 5th 1976. Staten Island, New York is where his journey began.

One of our fondest memories of E.J. will be his love of watching Wrestling. His Maternal Grandmother, Villa made sure he was not disturbed at all while watching Junk Yard Dog, Rick Flair, and so many others in the wrestling ring every Saturday morning. Whenever any of us joked him about how much he loved wrestling, his Maternal Grandmother and his Great-Grandmother would yell at us to “Leave EJ alone!” He was definitely favored by both his Grandmothers, and didn’t mind letting us know!

E.J. was raised as a young child in various neighborhoods in Staten Island, NY, then moved with his mother and sister Niketa to Hampton, Virginia at the age of 11.

After completing Middle School in Hampton VA, he graduated from Ferguson High School in Newport News, VA., and remained living in Newport News, VA. until he decided to move back to New York.

One of E.J.’s other passions that he had, was something he shared with his Dad Emmett Sr.; they mutually had a love of BMWs. E.J. could be seen on any given day driving his father around in his Dad’s classic BMW. During those drives, EJ had the opportunity to meet some of his father’s longtime friends before his Dad passed away suddenly in 2016.

Whatever the situation, he would turn to his music. E.J.’s love for Hip Hop transitioned him into a talented producer, writer, and artist. He was definitely in his element whether it was on stage, or in the studio. Some of E.J.’s best memories were of him being able to travel to various places and perform in Europe as well. He was able to make great memories for himself, as well as many others all over New York with his cousins Dean Jr. and Ian using their love of music.

He leaves to cherish his awesome memory His Mother, Pamela Chesson; Step-Father, Kemp Jones; Sister, Niketa Washington; Brother, Urian Keel; Step-Brothers, KJ Jones and James Jones; His Children, Elijah, Ishmire, Shaikeya, Shaimel, Shaiheed, Khunyri, Blessin and Emmett, lll; Grandmother, Ellen Washington; Aunts, Uncles, many special cousins and dear friends.

I remember learning Body slams and head locks FIRSTHAND lol. EJ was always making jokes and making us laugh. I remember the first time I had crab legs was because he brought them with him to my mom's house and was eating them ALL ALONE. He took a tiny piece and gave me some (lol) and I was hooked. Still one of my favorite things.
i'll always remember that his whole entire face, especially his eyes lit up whenever he smiled. He co-wrote a song with Me, Willy and Ian as Dean produced my first album. There are so many memories I have and I'll always treasure them.

Daddy I love you and miss you so much! And I want you to know that as I grew older, NO ONE could ever tell me anything bad about about you! The older I got the more I started to realize how much we are alike! The big smiles, doing what makes us happy, the love of music and arts, and our giant personalities! I love you so much and I know that you definitely love me and did the best you could as a dad and our memories together could NEVER be taken away from me or replaced by anyone! I am a part of you and you are a part of me! I love you so much Dad and I promise to make it in life. For you! I want to continue your legacy of music, show the world where and WHO I come from. And that is YOU! ! And the world WILL KNOW that I am a reflection of Emmett Adrian DeCosta Jr. when it comes to music! And I want you to help me guide myself in life and help me to become the person you always knew I could and would be. A star. Our journey doesn’t end here Pops, it’s still going. This just so happens to be one of the hardest chapters in my life. But BECAUSE I have you in my blood I KNOW I will keep on reading until I have finished my book as well! I love you Dad! And I know you love me! Until we meet again..see you later Dad! Love Shaimel DeCosta! So proud to be a DeCosta! I wear my name on my FACE! They gonna KNOW who my daddy was!

EJ, you were my 1st born, which means you held the #1 spot in my heart. You gave me so much joy and love when you were born, that I totally changed my life because of you. You were my inspiration to keep pushing forward when a lot of teen Moms decided to give up on finishing school. Because of you, my life became purposeful. I will miss you more than anyone can imagine. My #1🌟 for life. Thank you for loving me, and thank you for having such a good heart and love for people. As one of your friends said, you were an undeniable talent, and you will be forever missed. Until I see you again, Love Ma 💘
