I got to know Domonique in the classroom at NSA where he absolutely excelled because of his hard work and determination. He was so proactive about his education and scheduled after school meetings with teachers so that he could earn top grades. He was so beloved by his classmates and teammates because he was so funny, so truthful, so generous and thoughtful; and he treated people well. He really cared about others, and somehow, he could relate to other people no matter what age, race or gender. I'll never forget him coming to me house and hanging out with my family for hours one Christmas Eve. He stayed with my family at the beach one summer. I loved how he would bring his friends from ECU with him to visit. I'll never forget him taking the time to talk to the younger kids at NSA. Some of the 3rd grade boys wanted his autograph when he was walking through the cafeteria in his jersey one Friday and instead of walking on by them, Domonique sat down with them and talked to them while they finished their lunch. I saw another little girl looking up at him in awe and he scooped her up and placed he on his shoulder to make her feel special. To say that he was special does not really express how wonderful he truly was. Why did this have to happen to him of all people? There are no answers. I will do my best to honor his memory by loving my family and friends as well as he did. I will trust that God needed Domonique more than we did and I will look forward to the day I will see him again.
