Robert Steven Hitchman Sr., of the 700 block of Partridge Ave., went home to be with his Savior, Jesus Christ on Thursday, July 19, 2018.
Bobby as he was affectionately called was born March 21, 1937, in Norfolk, VA to the late Ruth M. Hitchman and Clifford Steven Hitchman. He was a member of The Basilica of St. Mary of the Immaculate Conception, where he served faithfully on the Bereavement Committee until his illness.
After 38 years of service, Bobby retired from Sears. He was predeceased by his father Clifford Steven Hitchman and mother Ruth Morris Hitchman, sisters, Louise Brown and Hattie B. Thornton.
He is survived by his loving wife of 59 years, Okey J. Hitchman; three sons, Robert S. Hitchman Jr., Roderick B. Hitchman, Lynn A. Hitchman (Kimberly); three daughters, Robin H. Hicks, Tammy H. Williams (Major), Mathenia H. Rose (Keith); four sister-in-law’s, Evelyn J. Wilson, Ruth J. Wilson (Samuel), Vivian A. Johnson, Eileen J. Gaines; four brother-in-law’s, James Johnson (Violet) Roman Johnson (Leona ), Alfred Johnson (Gene), Kenneth Johnson (Emily), 13 grandchildren; 5 great grand-children; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives & many friends.
The home going celebration will be held Tuesday in The Basilica of Saint Mary of the Immaculate Conception at 11:00a.m., 232 Chapel St., Norfolk, VA 23504, with Msgr. Walter Barrett officiating. Interment will be in Albert G. Horton Jr. Memorial Veterans Cemetery. A wake will be held from 6:30 to 7:30pm Monday July 23, 2018 at Graves Funeral Home, 1631 Church Street Norfolk, VA 23504. Family and friends will assemble at the home, one hour prior to the service for the procession to the church.
